Emily's Rock and Roll Reading Room: That Summertime Sound

It's the summer after his freshman year of college, and the 19-year-old narrator of Matthew Specktor's That Summertime Sound has two options: return home to Los Angeles, to a city and a family that hardly notice him; or journey to the heart of America--Columbus, Ohio--for a summer of unexpected and life-defining experiences.

Emily Finds A Place to Bury Strangers

A Place to Bury Strangers is Emily's fave new band, and she would like to offer her fans the opportunity to win one of five CD's signed by the band! Exploding Head, their sophomore release, comes out October 6th and let's just say it's an apt title for the album. The Washington Post calls the Brooklyn three piece "the most ear-shatteringly loud garage/shoegaze band you'll ever hear." Think early 80s-era Cure, My Bloody Valentine, and pre-1990s Jesus and Mary Chain filtered through the band's own noisy vision. Purrrfect.
